During a recent gathering led by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and graced by Pakistan Muslim League-NawazPML-N) Nawaz Sharif, crucial choices were reached to boost assistance for farmers and elevate agricultural progress in Punjab.
One of the main revelations from this assembly was the formation of the Punjab Kisan Bank, with the aim of simplifying farmers’ access to loans. This move demonstrates a dedication to easing financial burdens and encouraging investments in agriculture.
Various other significant plans were unveiled, including the Green Tractor Scheme, now officially known as the “CM Punjab Green Tractor Scheme.” Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz notably advocated for a 70% subsidy on small tractors and a 50% subsidy on large tractors, rejecting the initial proposal for a lower subsidy amount.
In response to Nawaz Sharif’s proposal, the allotment for tractors under the Green Tractor Scheme was increased by an extra 10,000 units. Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed the completion of the initial phase of the scheme within a year, with a promise to persist in providing tractors annually thereafter.
To modernize farming techniques, the approval was given for the locally produced High-Tech Mechanization Program in partnership with foreign companies, focusing on producing harvesters and other machinery in Punjab. The incentivization of foreign companies to invest in contemporary agricultural equipment manufacturing was also discussed.
Another praiseworthy initiative is the Oilseed Promotion Program, set up to stimulate oilseed production in various areas of Punjab. This program aims to strengthen self-sufficiency in oilseed production, diminishing the need for imports.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz accentuated the groundbreaking nature of the farmer package, amounting to 400 billion rupees, which integrates provisions for the Kisan Card, offering farmers essential agricultural resources and added advantages. She reaffirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to improving farmer well-being and agricultural output as primary focal points.
The congregation included several high-ranking officials and ministers, such as Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Provincial Ministers Sohaib Ahmed Malik and Syed Ashiq Hussain, Special Assistant Rashid Nasrullah, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, and Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Sahoo, emphasizing the combined endeavor to propel the agricultural sector in Punjab forward.
